An island of birdlife and history
(Eskilsø Island)
Visitors are welcome to Eskilsø throughout the year.
The church ruins are the remains of a church that belonged to an Augustinian monastery. The monastery was built in the 1100’s and moved to Æbelholt in north Zealand in the same century.
For up-to-date information about trails and access to the island, visit www.eskilsø1.dk.
To protect the island’s birdlife and grazing animals, dogs are not permitted on Eskilsø.
Access and protecting birdlife
Access to the island is via the small harbour on its western side. Kayakers may land immediately north of the jetty. Follow the designated paths, respect closed areas and show consideration for residents. Dogs are not permitted, and there is no visitor toilet.
