The woods around Svanholm Estate are owned and managed by the Svanholm community, which has lived at the estate and farmed organically since 1978. Woodland management allows trees to seed naturally and some dead wood to decay, providing habitats for fungi and insects.

Lystskoven

West of Svanholm Allé, with its old lime trees, lies Lystskoven. An 800-metre path passes through a restored landscape inspired by the romantic style of the 19th century, with winding paths and arched bridges. Fallen trees are left in place, making the process of decay visible. The ponds were created when the estate’s moat was filled in during the late 19th century.

Julianehøj Forest

Julianehøj Forest covers 51 hectares and contains several historic features. The ground is hilly, with the 69-metre Julianehøj burial mound to the east. It is the highest point on the Hornsherred peninsula. On clear days, views extend towards Roskilde Cathedral and Herlev Hospital near Copenhagen. A former owner landscaped the ancient burial mound as a romantic destination for outings.
