“Skjold – Son of Odin” is the 2026 production at the Frederikssund Viking Play, celebrating its 75th anniversary with a dramatic story of kingship, power struggles and divine destiny. Set by the scenic Roskilde Fjord, the play offers an outdoor theatre experience filled with Vikings, saga tradition and vivid storytelling.

The story follows the young Skjold, sent by the gods to a land struck by war and unrest. He grows up under the protection of a seeress and a warrior. Skjold must prove courage, strength and intelligence to claim the throne – a journey filled with trials, intrigue and difficult choices, supported by his beloved and his friends.

A performance of depth and drama

The new production brings Norse mythology and legends to life through intense drama and strong character portrayals. Audiences can experience the Viking Age world with its conflicts over power, belief and morality, conveyed through scenography, combat and storytelling rooted in sagas and legends.

Anniversary year and extra experiences

2026 marks the 75th anniversary of the Frederikssund Viking Play, with “Skjold – Son of Odin” as the central event. The anniversary year also includes a winter Viking market, town festival, god-hunt activity, book release and several events extending across both winter and summer seasons.
