Ring’s Studio on Sankt Jørgensbjerg in Roskilde offers an insight into the life and daily routines of the artist L.A. Ring. Today, the small studio house serves as a visitor centre presenting the painter, his works, and the surroundings of Roskilde Fjord, a scenic fjord west of Copenhagen. The house and garden create an atmospheric setting for the visit.

In the Footsteps of L.A. Ring on Sankt Jørgensbjerg

The renowned painter L.A. Ring spent the last 19 years of his life in Roskilde, where he lived with his family on Sankt Jørgensbjerg, one of the city’s oldest and most picturesque neighbourhoods. Beside the villa, he owned a smaller house that was used, among other things, as a studio. Today, the house functions as a visitor centre focusing on the artist’s life and work.

The original house also provides an insight into residential life on Sankt Jørgensbjerg more than 100 years ago. Through the interior design, atmospheric surroundings, and short films, visitors are introduced to the story of L.A. Ring and the period in which he lived.

Discover Ring’s Motifs in the Area

Several of L.A. Ring’s motifs can still be recognised in the streets surrounding the studio and in the landscape along Roskilde Fjord. After the visit, guests can explore the area independently using the USEEUM museum app, which can be downloaded free of charge by searching for “L.A. Ring’s Studio”.

Every summer, a special exhibition is presented in the house. In 2026, the exhibition “Painters by Roskilde Fjord” will be shown, bringing together printed reproductions of works created by various artists inspired by the fjord and the landscape around Roskilde.

The studio’s charming garden invites visitors to take a relaxing break surrounded by greenery. Here, guests can enjoy a cup of coffee at L.A. Ring’s original stone table and experience the unique atmosphere that characterises the site.
