Særløse Overdrev grasslands, Bøllesø and Avnsø lakes
Særløse Overdrev, Bøllesø and Avnsø near Hvalsø on Zealand offer three distinct nature experiences, linked by the Skjoldungestierne trails. Visitors can see grazing cattle, distinctive grassland plants and amphibians, walk along a boardwalk across the old peat bog and discover a clear forest lake used for swimming all year round.
Grassland and a former peat bog
South-west of Særløse village, near Hvalsø on Zealand, three different landscapes lie close together. Særløse Overdrev is old grazing land with cattle and plants associated with open grassland.
Bøllesø is a former peat excavation and a habitat for many amphibians. A boardwalk takes you through the area, offering a different perspective from the open hills.
Continue to Avnsø
From Bøllesø, continue to Avnsø, a clear woodland lake used for swimming in summer and winter. Tables and benches near the lake offer a place to stop.
The Skjoldungestien walking trail connects the areas, with parking nearby. Give grazing animals space, keep dogs on a lead and follow local signs. Surfaces and terrain vary, so wear footwear suited to a walk in the countryside.
