Himmelsøen near Roskilde - lakeside beach and nature
Himmelsøen is a former gravel quarry near Roskilde, west of Copenhagen, with a sandy beach, walking paths and lake views. Enjoy the landscape on foot and swim within the marked bathing area, following the signs at the lake.

Take a Safe Dip
A path runs for roughly 2 kilometres around the lake, and a sandy beach sits by the shore. The former gravel quarry can become deep suddenly. Swim within the marked bathing area and follow the signs.
Even on a warm summer's day, it is important to respect the water. Inland bathing lakes can have significant variations in depth, and the water may be surprisingly cold just below the surface. Before entering the water, we recommend reading TrygFonden's Five Bathing Safety Tips and taking the necessary precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable day by the water.
Nature Experiences and Facilities
The area around Himmelsøen features varied trails where nature has developed freely since the former gravel excavation. By the lakeside, visitors will find a large bathing beach as well as a shelter and campfire site, making it suitable for both short visits and longer outdoor stays.
Visiting with Dogs
Dogs are welcome on walks around the lake. The scenic surroundings and well-maintained paths provide an ideal setting for a relaxing walk in nature for both owners and their four-legged companions.
