Shelter site in Helvigstrup forest

In the heart of the Bidstrup Forests lies an atmospheric shelter site, where peace and nature meet in a clearing with beautiful views over lake and meadow.

A night under the open sky

The shelter site offers two sturdy shelters, each accommodating approximately five people. They are positioned just a few metres apart and both face the same direction, allowing guests to enjoy views of the open landscape from the front row. There is ample space for small groups, families, and hikers passing through.

A campsite made for shared moments

The shelters are set in a clearing near the former Helvigstruphus and form the setting for a cosy campsite. Close to the site is a covered fire shelter, making it easy to gather for cooking and campfire evenings, whatever the weather. A multi-use toilet is located nearby and adds extra comfort to the outdoor experience.

Explore the forest on foot or by bike

The area around the shelter site is a hub for both walking and cycling routes. The Skjoldung Trail and the Ice Age Route pass directly by along Hundeklemmevej, while the Munkevejen route and the Danish Pilgrims Route are located a short distance away. This makes the site ideal as a stop on longer journeys or as a base for day trips through the varied forest and lakeside landscape.

Practical information and free access

The shelter site is located on Hundeklemmevej near the former Helvigstruphus. The shelters cannot be booked in advance but are available on a first come, first served basis, allowing for spontaneous stays and genuine outdoor living. Parking is available approximately 700 metres from the site at the Danish Nature Agency’s Valborup Forest car park on Skrædderhusvej, from where a short and scenic walk leads to the shelters.
