Roskilde Vig, Floating shelter site
Spend the night on Roskilde Fjord in a floating shelter off Vigen Beach Park.
A special nature experience on the water with views across the fjord and easy access to beach, paths and fjord life.
Floating shelter at Roskilde Vig
Off Vigen Beach Park on Roskilde Fjord, a floating shelter offers a distinctive overnight stay close to the water. Here, you can spend the night in a bivouac on a timber raft, anchored near the shore, with views across the fjord and easy access to beach, paths and local fjord life. Built by National Park Skjoldungernes Land, the shelter provides a calm and atmospheric nature experience in the heart of the fjord landscape.
Overnight stay close to water and beach
The floating shelter consists of a platform with one bivouac, accommodating around two people. On arrival, the bivouac can be unfolded using a handle once the booking code has been entered. When closed, the platform appears as a discreet timber raft that blends naturally into its surroundings just off the beach park.
The night is spent to the sound of the water and birdlife of the fjord, offering the rare feeling of being both close to land and out on the water at the same time. Wearing a life jacket while on the deck is recommended. You must be at least 13 years old to stay overnight in the floating bivouac.
The shelter is placed on the fjord from around 1 April and removed again in mid-October. Outside this period, the shelter is not available for use.
Experiences around Roskilde Vig
The floating shelter is located in an area with plenty of opportunities for both activity and relaxation. From Vigen Beach Park, a scenic path runs north-west along the fjord to Veddelev Marina, reached in about 10 minutes. From here, public paths with benches and viewpoints continue along the shoreline. Fjordstien, Regional Route 40 for cyclists and walkers, passes approximately 1.5 km from the shelter at Frederiksborgvej.
The fjord invites active outdoor life. Canoes and kayaks can moor at the floating shelter, and access to the water is available directly from Vigen Beach Park opposite the site. Swimming is possible both from the shelter and from the beach park, which holds Blue Flag status and features a bathing jetty and good facilities.
Fishing and sailing on the fjord
Roskilde Vig offers good conditions for both fishing and sailing close to the shelter. South of the beach park at Sønderø, there are opportunities to fish for sea trout and garfish, while the breakwaters at Veddelev Harbour, around 400 metres away, are suitable for flatfish and garfish. Guest berths for sailors are available at Veddelev Marina, making it easy to combine a night on the water with sailing on the fjord.
Part of the national park’s nature
The floating shelter at Roskilde Vig forms part of National Park Skjoldungernes Land’s work to provide access to nature in a considerate way. By concentrating overnight stays and outdoor activities in selected locations, visitors can enjoy close contact with the fjord while sensitive areas are protected. The shelter is designed to blend into the landscape and offer a memorable and close-to-nature way of experiencing Roskilde Fjord.
