Roskilde Station – a historic transport hub close to the city's attractions

Roskilde Station is Denmark’s oldest existing railway station building and a central hub in the city. The station is located close to both historical sights and the harbour area, making it a natural starting point for exploring Roskilde on foot.

The station was built in 1847 in connection with Denmark’s first railway between Copenhagen and Roskilde. The listed building is designed in an Italian-inspired style and today appears with restored colours that emphasise its historic character. Its central location makes it an ideal starting point for both short stays and longer visits.

Tæt på Roskildes største attraktioner

From Roskilde Station, there is a short distance to several of the city’s most notable attractions. Roskilde Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, can be reached in approximately 15 minutes on foot. Towards the fjord lies Roskilde Harbour, where the Viking Ship Museum tells the story of Denmark’s maritime history.

In the Musicon district, you will find Rockmuseet – Denmark’s Rock Museum, which focuses on Danish rock and youth culture. The combination of history, culture and modern experiences makes the area around the station diverse and easily accessible.

Nem adgang til byen og fjorden

The station’s central location provides easy access to both the city centre and Roskilde Fjord. A walk through the city takes you past shops, cafés and historic streets, while the route towards the harbour offers views of the water and access to maritime activities.

It is recommended to start your visit at the station and explore the city on foot to gain a full impression of Roskilde’s cultural heritage and atmosphere.
