Lyndby shelter site

Right by the water’s edge at Lyndby Shelter Site, fjord, beach and active outdoor life come together to create the setting for a memorable night in nature.

Two shelters with the fjord as your closest neighbour

Lyndby Shelter Site is located directly on Roskilde Fjord on a beautiful plot below a west-facing slope. There are two shelters, each accommodating approximately six people, positioned close to one another and opening in the same direction, making them suitable for both small groups and shared trips. The surrounding trees provide shelter from the prevailing westerly winds and create a calm, protected atmosphere. In front of the shelters, a sandy beach with grassy growth stretches all the way down to the fjord, where the water becomes a natural part of the stay.

A lively outdoor area with good facilities

The shelter site serves as a base for Lejre Sea Kayak & Outdoor Association, giving the area an active and maritime character. Toilet facilities, drinking water and waste disposal are available at the so-called Yellow Bathhouse approximately 75 metres from the site, open from late March to late October. A small bathing jetty provides direct access to the fjord during the bathing season, and the area invites both quiet moments and more active days. There is also the option to set up hammocks between the trees and pitch tents on the area south of the shelters.

Booking and practical information

Overnight stays at Lyndby Shelter Site always require booking, including for day events. The shelters are booked directly through Lejre Sea Kayak & Outdoor Association, which is responsible for the daily operation of the site. If the entire site is to be used for a larger event, separate permission must be obtained from Lejre Municipality. Parking is available at the entrance to the site or at Haldrups Grund slightly to the south, and it is not permitted to drive all the way down to or park on the shelter area itself.

Fjord life, walking and cycling right by the site

With the fjord in front and the Fjord Trail just behind, Lyndby Shelter Site is an ideal starting point for both activity and relaxation in the outdoors.

  • Walking and cycling routes: The Fjord Trail, Regional Route 40, passes directly by on Hornsherredvej, making the site easy to reach on foot or by bicycle.
  • Canoeing and kayaking: Landing is possible directly at the shelter site, as well as at Lyndby Dinghy Sailing Club approximately 200 metres to the south.
  • Sailing: Lyndby Harbour is located 1.3 km south of the site and offers guest berths as part of the Free Harbour scheme.
  • Swimming: A small bathing jetty at the site provides easy access to the fjord during the summer months.
  • Fishing: Good opportunities for coastal fishing, particularly for sea trout, from the shore around Lyndby Dinghy Sailing Club and further south.

Whether you arrive by kayak, bicycle or hiking boots, Lyndby Shelter Site offers an overnight stay where the fjord landscape and simple outdoor living go hand in hand.
