The Lerbjerg-Shelters
The Lerbjerg Shelters offer simple, atmospheric accommodation in the tranquillity of the forest, right where the Bidstrup Forests begin.
Sleep in the heart of the forest, close to trails and tranquillity
On a cosy, open forest clearing around 100 metres west of the Telecom Tower, two shelters face each other with a shared fire pit in between. Here, people naturally gather around the flames as the day draws to a close and the sounds of the forest take over.
Each shelter accommodates 5–6 people, making the site ideal for small groups, families or friends seeking a night close to nature. The open space creates both a sense of openness and togetherness, allowing for shared meals, conversations and a calm evening atmosphere beneath the tree canopy.
The area is located in Lerbjerg Forest, which was acquired by the Danish Nature Foundation in 2022 and opened to public access.
Simple facilities – nature at the centre
The site is simply equipped with a compost toilet and a water tap, providing basic comfort without disturbing the natural surroundings. Water is available from 1 March to 30 November, while the winter months offer a more raw and undisturbed experience. Please bring your own firewood or charcoal; it is also possible to collect wood in the forest belt west of the site.
Motorised vehicles are not permitted on the site, ensuring a quiet atmosphere free from traffic and noise.
Please make sure the fire is fully extinguished when leaving the fire pit, so both the site and the forest can be enjoyed by future visitors.
Hiking and cycling routes close by
Lerbjerg Shelters are ideally located for outdoor activities on the move. Skjoldungestien (The Skjoldung Trail), one of Zealand’s most scenic hiking routes, passes approximately 200 metres from the site at Skrædderhusvej. The same applies to the Istidsruten (The Ice Age Route), National Cycle Route 44, which leads through Ice Age landscapes and varied nature around Hvalsø.
