Kong Roar’s Shelter Site is beautifully located by the beach in the north-eastern part of Boserup Forest, with direct access to Roskilde Fjord. Surrounded by forest and fjord, the site is an ideal place to stay overnight for hikers, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts seeking peace, nature and accommodation close to the water.

There are three shelters on the site, each accommodating between 6 and 8 people. The shelters are spaced slightly apart and face north, south and west respectively, providing both shelter from the wind and views of the surrounding landscape.

Getting there

The shelter site is located 1.8 km from the nearest parking area at Parking Boserup Forest South, opposite Boserupvej 81, 4000 Roskilde. Bus 207 between Roskilde and Osted stops close to the parking area at the stop Sorte Sti on Boserupvej.

From the parking area or bus stop, follow the forest paths to reach the shelter site.

Kong Roar’s Shelter Site is located close to several well-known hiking and cycling routes.

  • The Fjord Trail, Regional Route 40, passes close by and is suitable for both walkers and cyclists
  • The Skjoldung Trails include a route that runs near the shelter site
  • The Danish Pilgrims’ Route is located approximately 1.3 km away at Boserupvej
  • For cyclists, both the Panorama Route, Cycle Route 430, and the Monks’ Way, Cycle Route 88, pass directly through the area

The site’s location by the fjord offers excellent opportunities for enjoying fjord life. Canoes and kayaks can land directly at the shelter site. There are several good fishing spots along the coastline, and particularly in the bay at Lerskrænten, approximately 800 metres to the west, fishing conditions are especially favourable. In autumn, fish can often be seen migrating to their spawning grounds, and in winter there may be shoals of sea trout.
