Guest House in the Idyllic Village of Kattinge
Come and stay in a village that reflects what Denmark may have looked like over the past 1,000 years. Here you can experience a traditional village centre with houses that are 250-300 years old, gathered around a village green and common land. In earlier times, the village animals were brought here at night for grazing and watering, until around 1780-1850.
Close to Roskilde and Lejre
Kattinge is just 6 km from Roskilde, where you can visit attractions such as the Viking Ship Museum and Roskilde Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lejre is also only 6 km away and is home to Sagnlandet Lejre, an open-air history and archaeology park focused on Denmark’s past. In the nearby village of Herslev, you will also find Herslev Brewery with its bistro, as well as Friis-Holm Chocolate, a well-known Danish chocolate producer.
About the accommodation and your hosts
The house you will be staying in is our annexe, which is connected to the main house. This is where we live, Ditte and Andreas, together with our three boys, Eskild, Svend and Folke. They live, make noise, play and create a certain amount of chaos, so you should feel comfortable with that.
For that reason, we are especially happy to welcome families with children. That said, the property is usually very peaceful. The address is Svinget 3A, the last house on a quiet cul-de-sac in the eastern part of the village, with views across Roskilde.
Interior and facilities
The accommodation includes a large first-floor living room with sleeping space and east-facing views. There is also a wood-burning stove, and firewood is included. Sleeping arrangements include a double bed, a double sofa bed, a single bed and a cot with bed linen and duvets.
The kitchen is simple and includes two hotplates, a coffee machine, an electric kettle, a mini oven and most of the essentials you would expect in a kitchen. Next to the kitchen, you will find the bathroom with a toilet and shower cubicle. Towels are included.
Outdoor facilities
Outside, there is a terrace with a barbecue. You are also welcome to use the large village green in the centre of Kattinge for relaxing and play. Here you will find playground equipment, a pétanque court, swings and a fire pit.
Access and parking
The house is located at the end of the unpaved cul-de-sac called Svinget and can be recognised by its red letterbox. There may be free-ranging hens and children playing, so please drive carefully and slowly.
Please park in the guest parking area in front of the house, marked with a P sign. To find the entrance, walk around the garage. Please note that there may be machinery and wood in the parking area, as an arborist also lives on the property.
Public transport
Bus 207 runs once or twice an hour to both Roskilde Station and Lejre Station.
