Gudernes Stræde - Hiking trail

Take a 64 km hike through Skjoldungernes Land National Park. Gudernes Stræde leads you from Vellerup Vig by the Isefjord to Mosede Fort by Køge Bay – offering both natural experiences and storytelling along the way.

A route through landscapes and history

Walking Gudernes Stræde or the Trail of the Gods takes you through a varied terrain from forest and marsh paths to country roads and open landscapes. Just follow the blue signs along the way, and feel free to take short detours if you want to explore even more.

Along the route

You'll pass around 80 storytelling posts along the trail, each offering brief insights into the nature, culture and history you encounter. Every section of the path presents new impressions, giving you peace, perspective and knowledge along the way.

In the footsteps of the gods

The Trail of the Gods was inspired by Danish author Martin A. Hansen's 1954 essay. He believed that Lejre was once a royal stronghold and centre of religious processions and trade. As you walk the route, you follow a historic trail connecting sacred sites – including Blodhøj near Snoldelev and the coastline at Mosede Fort.

Tips for the journey

The trail was created by local volunteers and nature conservation groups and shifts between woodland paths, wetlands and rural roads. Please respect the environment: keep your dog on a lead, take your litter with you, and follow any signs indicating local rules or access restrictions.

Public transport

It is easy to get to Gudernes Stræde by train, bus, bicycle or car. There are train stations in Karlslunde, Solrød, Gadstrup, Hvalsø and Lejre. Buses run to, for example, Snoldelev, Øm, Kirke Såby, Kirke Sonnerup, Rye, Ejby, Kyndeløse and Kirke Hyllinge.

Transportation to the start at Vellerup Vig: Take the bus to Vellerup or park your car at Vellerup Church.
