Floating campsite at Møllekrogen

At Møllekrogen, in the northern part of Skjoldungernes Land National Park, you can enjoy an unusual overnight stay on Roskilde Fjord. Paddle out onto the water and spend the night in a floating bivouac, surrounded by the open fjord landscape, birdsong and gentle waves. The floating campsite offers a different way to experience the fjord, with nature close at hand both day and night.

Spend the night on Roskilde Fjord

The floating campsite consists of a platform that can be unfolded into a bivouac directly above the water when you arrive. When the bivouac is not set up, the platform looks like a raft moored by the small harbour at Møllekrogen. At night, you can listen to the birds and the gentle lapping of the water as darkness and quiet settle over the fjord.

The campsite is anchored so that the opening automatically turns away from the wind as conditions change. You stay at your own risk, and wearing a life jacket while on deck is recommended. You must be at least 13 years old to stay overnight in the floating bivouac.

Paddle out in one of the national park's canoes

To reach the floating campsite, you need to cross approximately 100 metres of water from Møllekrogen. You can make the trip by kayak or use one of the national park's canoes, which are freely available at Møllekrogen and Gershøj. The canoes are free to use and are unlocked using a code sent by text message. Paddles and life jackets in various sizes are provided.

The canoes are available on a first come, first served basis, while the floating campsite itself must be booked in advance via friluftsguiden.dk. This is also where you will find the code needed to open the bivouac. The campsite can be booked from around 1 April to 15 October and is not available outside this period.

Part of the national park landscape

The floating campsite was established as part of the national park's work with outdoor recreation on Roskilde Fjord. It is positioned so that activities are concentrated in one area, helping to avoid disturbance to sensitive areas such as birds' breeding and resting sites.

Use of the campsite is based on trust and consideration. Please take all rubbish back to shore, close the bivouac after use and show respect for nature and other visitors.

The floating campsite at Møllekrogen was the first of its kind. A similar floating campsite is also available at Roskilde Vig, offering the same opportunity to spend the night on the water. Both campsites can be booked via friluftsguiden.dk.
