Hjertestien in Slotshegnet - a historic walk in Jægerspris
Follow the Heart Trail through historic Slotshegnet woodland beside Jægerspris Castle on Zealand. The circular walk passes ancient burial mounds, Wiedewelt’s monuments and reminders of Countess Danner.

Historic sights in the woodland
The route passes Stone Age passage graves and dolmens. Sculptor Johannes Wiedewelt’s monuments from the 1780s commemorate notable Danes and their contributions to the country.
The section from Langelinie to Thilkesvej is called Grevindestien, the Countess’s Path. A large stone recalls Countess Danner’s carriage becoming stuck here in snow and sleet in 1867, leaving her to walk back to the castle.
Along the way, look for twisted beeches with unusual, contorted branches. They descend from the old Fasanbøg, a now-dead beech in Fasanhaven. In the park east of the castle, the route passes Countess Danner’s burial mound.
Following the Heart Trail
The 4.3-kilometre circular route is marked with red hearts on trees. Start and finish at Rejsestalden, Hovedgaden 29A, or at Jægerspris Castle on Zealand. The route is not suitable for wheelchairs. Find the map and route description at Hjerteforeningen, the Danish Heart Foundation.
