Ghost hunting at a Viking burial ground at Lejre Museum
As darkness falls over historic Gl. Lejre, Lejre Museum invites you on a ghost hunt at an ancient Viking burial ground. The tour takes you to the historic Viking ship settings, where tales of supernatural beings from Nordic folklore meet stories of Viking beliefs about death and the afterlife.
When darkness falls over the Viking ship settings
During the autumn half-term, children and adults can venture into the darkness surrounding historic Lejre Museum. The tour leads towards the Viking ship settings and the area where the Vikings buried their dead, while tales of mythical creatures and ancient superstitions are brought to life along the way.
The Mare, the Will-o’-the-Wisp and the Myling
Hear tales of the Mare, a supernatural being believed in Danish folklore to cause nightmares; the Will-o’-the-Wisp, said to lure lost travellers astray; and the Myling, the ghost of a child whose cries or laughter were said to be heard in the woods at night.
Stories of these creatures of the night are combined with insights into Viking beliefs about death and the history of the area, making the ghost hunt a mix of spine-chilling encounters and fascinating tales from the past.
Practical information
The ghost hunt takes place on 13, 15 and 17 October from 7 pm to 8 pm and lasts approximately 1 hour.
The event is aimed at children aged 8–14.
Tickets cost DKK 50 for adults, while children under 18 can take part free of charge.
