Christmas atmosphere in the castle's historic rooms

Selsø Castle opens its doors for a weekend of Christmas markets and festive activities for the whole family. The historic rooms will be filled with handmade crafts from Hornsherred, a scenic peninsula in Denmark, and stalls offering Christmas gift inspiration. In the historic basement kitchen, the old hearth will be lit, giving visitors the chance to taste traditional Danish rice porridge and discover Christmas traditions from the days of the Danish manor houses.

Christmas activities and fun for children

Children can explore the castle on a treasure hunt, take part in various searching games or play with toys. In the basement, there will be a Christmas elf workshop where children can make their own traditional Danish straw elves.

Children can also enjoy a pony ride in the castle courtyard between 11.30 am and 12 noon. Tickets for the rides must be purchased separately.

Meet the castle's historic residents

Throughout the castle, visitors can meet members of the household staff dressed in historical costumes. From 2 pm to 3 pm, the housekeeper will entertain guests and lead a guided tour of the historic rooms, sharing stories of life at the manor house.

The day ends with traditional Christmas songs and dancing around the Christmas tree, led by the chambermaid.

• Admission: Adults DKK 100 / children DKK 50

• Included in admission: Three æbleskiver (traditional Danish Christmas pancake balls) and a glass of gløgg (Danish mulled wine), with or without rum

• Pony rides for children: Additional DKK 20

Please note: Warm clothing is recommended, as the event takes place in a historic castle.
