Apple Festival at Lützhøft’s Old Grocer’s Shop

Enjoy an Apple Festival at the historic grocer’s courtyard

First, the apples are chopped, then milled and finally pressed. Visitors can bring a bag of apples and a bottle from home, or buy a set from the grocer and have a go at making fresh apple juice. A range of activities for both children and adults will also be taking place throughout the historic courtyard.

Horse-drawn carriage rides, treasure hunt and creative activities

The sound of horseshoes and old carriage wheels returns to the cobbled streets as Fredes Frieserheste offers rides through Roskilde in a historic horse-drawn carriage.

Children can also set off in search of Kim the Grocer’s golden apples, which Benny the Shopkeeper has stolen and hidden in the nooks and crannies of the courtyard. Those who find the apples during the grand treasure hunt will receive a reward.

In the café, visitors can make apple prints on an apron or tea towel. Places for this activity are limited. The café will also be serving homemade Danish æbleskiver based on Ingeborg Suhr’s 1917 recipe – naturally, these ones contain pieces of apple.

Historic experiences throughout the courtyard

The Butcher’s Museum will be serving sausages from its historic sausage cart and will be specially open during the Apple Festival. At the Crafts Museum, visitors can try their hand at small building projects.

The old-fashioned grocer’s shop can also be explored on both sides of the counter, with traditional boiled sweets and small toys available to buy.

Special offer for childcare and educational institutions

Childcare and educational institutions can book a separate visit from Monday to Friday at 10.30 am. The programme includes a horse-drawn carriage ride, the chance to press apples and a treasure hunt.
